Presentation to members of the American Library Association (ALA). The focus of my talk was the opportunity that AI presents to information professionals working in libraries and information centres. (16 April 2026)
My keynote presentation for the 2024 European Conference on Social Media. I argued that building trust in AI was essential if deplyments were going to be successful. I drew on analogies with food and medicine poisonings in the 19th and early 20th centuries. Public trust was only restored and maintained through legislation forcing hygiene and quality standards on manufacturers and retailers. (30 May 2024)
